When the Portland Schooner Company needed a float system to berth the historic 96-foot Timberwind, they turned to Custom Float Services. The 91-year-old two-masted schooner provides two-hour public sails in Portland Harbor and is USCG certified to carry 45 passengers. The ship’s owners needed a float system that would allow the company to safely board passengers at it’s site between the Maine State Pier and Portland Ocean Gateway Pier.
CFS designed and constructed six heavy-duty timber float sections to create 120 lineal feet of berthing space from which the ship sails daily. The floats are held in place by a combination of steel pilings and a granite block anchor system. An aluminum gangway connects the floats to an existing land and provides safe tidal access.
